PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR EXISTENCE IN A CHANGING WORLD

WELCOME

I’m Hannes, an Integrative Psychotherapist offering thoughtful, collaborative therapy for adults and young people aged 16 and over. I offer both short-term (6–12 sessions) and longer-term work, depending on your needs. I currently have weekly slots available for online sessions and am accepting enquiries for face-to-face sessions in Manchester.

Please feel free to get in touch and we can discuss what might work best for you.

WHY THERAPY?

People come to therapy for many different reasons. You might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected — perhaps facing loss, trauma, relationship struggles, a major life transition or diagnosis, or just a quiet sense that something isn’t quite right. Therapy can be a space to slow down, reflect, and begin to make sense of your experience..

APPROACH

My approach draws from existential, humanistic, psychodynamic and person-centred traditions. I work relationally, paying attention to your emotional world, your relationships, and the broader context of your life.

These different traditions each offer something valuable. Existential therapy helps us think about how we live — how we respond to uncertainty, freedom, and the things we can’t control. Humanistic and Person-Centred approaches hold the belief that people have an inner drive toward growth and healing, especially when met with empathy and authenticity. Psychodynamic ideas help make sense of how early experiences and relationships might still be shaping how we feel and relate now. These threads come together in my work to offer a space where we can explore what matters to you.

I aim to support you in finding ways that feel more aligned with who you are and how you want to live.

ABOUT ME

Prior to working in private practice, I’ve worked in mental health and social care settings for over a decade, including schools and community-based services.

I find clarity and connection in being outdoors, especially near the ocean. Spending time in nature helps me stay present and reminds me of the bigger picture. I think it’s easy to lose perspective when we’re caught up in everyday pressures, and I value things that help us reconnect with what matters.

I’ve lived in several countries around the world and know how it can feel to be far from familiar surroundings or a clear sense of belonging. I’m queer and committed to creating a space where people feel accepted and understood.

I believe people are capable of real care and change, especially when they feel seen and supported. That belief is at the heart of how I work.

ISSUES

Human beings all experience difficulties from time to time. While our struggles may take familiar forms, each person’s experience is shaped by their own story, relationships, and context. I don’t see people as problems to be fixed, but as individuals navigating real and often painful challenges.

Here are some of the areas I often work with:

Anxiety

Feelings of worry, panic, or unease that may seem out of proportion or hard to control. Anxiety can show up in the body, in sleep patterns, or in an ongoing sense of dread or tension.

Depression

A sense of flatness, heaviness, or lack of motivation. Depression can affect how you see yourself and the world, and make even small tasks feel overwhelming.

Trauma

Experiences that feel too much, too fast, or too soon — or that leave a lasting impact. This might include abuse, violence, loss, or a sudden collapse of meaning, such as losing a sense of faith, ideology, or certainty in the world.

Identity and Belonging

Questions around who you are, where you fit, and how you relate to your culture, community, or family. This can be especially present for LGBTQ+ people or those living between different worlds.

Experiences of Discrimination

Facing racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or other forms of systemic injustice can be deeply wounding. Therapy can be a space to explore the emotional toll of these experiences and reconnect with our strength and agency.

Relationships

Difficulties with intimacy, boundaries, or connection — whether in romantic, family, or work contexts. Therapy can help us explore patterns and develop new ways of relating.

Loss and Grief

Whether through death, separation, illness, or life transitions, loss can shake the foundations of our lives. Grief may not follow a clear path, and it’s different for everyone.

Existential Concerns

You may feel stuck, disconnected, or as though something vital is missing. There might be a longing to live with more meaning, depth or enjoyment — or to reconnect with what matters most to you. These questions often arise in moments of transition, isolation, or change.

Life Transitions

Big shifts — starting or ending relationships, becoming a parent, moving country, changing career — can bring both possibility and disorientation. Therapy can help you reflect and find your footing.

Concern for the World

Many people are affected by what’s happening in the wider world — climate change, war, injustice, and political uncertainty. It’s not unusual to feel overwhelmed, hopeless, or angry in response. Therapy can support us to make sense of these feelings and consider how to live in line with our values.
